6/7 Ebey's Landing, causeway removal, BC bees, floating island, Michael Weiss

Ebey's Landing [Karen DuBose]

Fav Place: Ebey's Landing
Karen DuBose from Mount Vernon writes: "My favorite Salish Sea place is Ebey’s Landing. I used to live just a few miles away and hike the bluff and beach trail at least weekly. There is always something new to see – new flowers blooming, interesting finds washed up (like the time I found a grapefruit washed up 1.5 miles from anything?!), and the changes in the lagoon with every big storm. At dawn, at dusk, on a windy winter or calm summer day, it never failed to delight."

Causeway removal meant big jump in juvenile salmon
The return of young salmon to the eelgrass beds of the tidelands below Indian Island’s sandstone-stacked bluffs has been swift following the removal of an earthen causeway that opened fish passage. Even Bill Kalina, the island’s longtime environmental program manager for the Navy, was taken aback by the jump in the number of juvenile salmon since the causeway was replaced with the bridge at the south end of Kilisut Harbor, Kitsap Sun reported.
