Psilocybin mushroom
Psilocybin mushroom is a type of hallucinogenic mushroom and a
polyphyletic informal group of fungi that contain the prodrug
psilocybin, which is metabolised into the psychedelic compound psilocin
following ingestion. The term "psilocybin mushroom" refers to a broad
group of fungi found across several genera. Amongst other cultural
applications, psilocybin mushrooms are used as recreational drugs. While
psilocybin mushrooms were used ritualistically in pre-Columbian Mexico
for religious and divinatory purposes, their historical use elsewhere
was rare and is often exaggerated. Such practices were suppressed after
European colonization. (Wikipedia)
