Panther Cap Amanita pantherina
Amanita pantherina is a beautiful and iconic mushroom. A muted relative of the Amanita muscaria or fly agaric, its cap features a bold pattern of ochre brown dots with white spots. This spotted toadstool also shares the fly agaric’s healing, psychoactive and rather toxic potential and is one of the more dangerous mushrooms to consume in its whole, raw form. (ACS Laboratory)

Another humpback whale found dead in the Salish Sea
A humpback whale has been found dead in the Salish Sea, the second confirmed humpback death in coastal B.C. waters in just over two weeks. The whale was identified through photographs as Polyphemus (BCZ0342), a 21-year old humpback known to migrate to Hawaii. Jeff Lawrence reports. (CHEK)
